The X-Men's concern grows as they fear he is no longer the man he once was.

In North Carolina, Mannite orphan Nina declares “they're comin'! It's jus' the beginnin'... and nobody's safe.” Dr. Renee is unable to quiet her tantrum, which results in Nina teleporting to an unknown location.

At the mansion, an alarm awakens the team before sunrise. The source of the alarm is not an intruder, but a very irate Professor Xavier. He admonishes the team for their slow response time. Unphased by Storm's gentle resistance, he puts the team through a series of vicious training exercises.

In space, Bishop and Deathbird continue to hurtle forward in a small craft. They encounter a peculiar, mutated planet.

Professor Xavier continues his brutal training regimen without a pause. When Xavier's one-on-one coaching with Marrow (to retract her bony growths entirely) becomes too intense, Gambit intercedes – only to have the Professor summarily dismiss him from the team, and the others from the training session.

Later that evening, Storm gains an audience with Charles, alone. Nightcrawler waits for her to emerge, and when she does she says, “we must call Jean Grey.”

In an unknown facility, Nina discovers she has teleported into a room full of her fellow Mannites.
